Namaste!
I have always been interested in 3-D object creation and jewelry making is one dimension that lets me explore my creative habit. I started Artwink Jewelry in 2009 as a way to fulfill my desire to create wearable objects. I love to wear jewelry as well as create it so that naturally led to the desire to share my creations.
Jewelry making is a creative form that is woven throughout my career as an artist. It is something that challenges all my problem solving skills, especially due to the fact that i only work with cold connections. My work, at this point, does not involve a torch. I like to be thoughtful about my process when I'm at my workbench so I tend to work when it is quiet and there are no distraction. Then I can focus my attention on color, texture and form as I assemble each piece as a composition. My main concern is: How can the various elements work together? Are they harmonious or is there tension? There is much trial and error before a piece comes to fruition. Lately I am finding the I enjoy combining fabricated elements with purchased materials. Some of which include: silk, satin, rubber, gemstones, antique brass, charms, sterling silver and gold.
I would say, overall, my motivation in creating Artwink jewelry is to present affordable designs that are simple yet elegant and, casual yet graceful. They are meant to uplift body, mind and spirit.
